Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in scientific writing and scholarly publishing

Date: Tuesday, 7th October 2025

Time: 16.00-17.30

Room: ROOM C

Presenters:

Helen Habernickel, Executive Publisher, Energy Journals, Elsevier, Germany, and Dana Niculescu, Senior Publisher, Energy Journals, Elsevier, The Netherlands.

Abstract:

The workshop discusses Generative AI (GenAI) and its impact on scientific writing and publishing: GenAI, powered by Large Language Models like ChatGPT, can generate content based on prompts, offering benefits such as time saving, language improvement, research idea generation, and increased accessibility. On the other hand, it also runs the risk of misinformation, bias, lack of transparency, environmental impact, and content homogenization. The workshop also includes information on global legislation in key countries, aimed at regulating AI use, Elsevier’s policies on ethical AI use, and AI tools developed by Elsevier for manuscript screening, reviewer matching, and innovative solutions to support researchers.
